In 2016 I decided to become a casting inst ructor. It was suggested I contact a certain MCI (master caster instructor) - Leslie Holmes as a possible mentor in February '16. We spoke and were instantly on insulting terms and he took me on. The Irish and Icelanders tend to get on well. We had a weekend casting session in Boca Grande in April. Well, that was quite the eye-opener for me. I could cast some he gave me that, but my faults were many and varied and were mercilessly pointed out and corrected. After that, I returned home to practice, and we scheduled a tune-up and a test in late August. The goal was to become a certified fly-casting instructor (CCI). I passed the CCI test and now Leslie is in the process of teaching me to use the two-handed rod. Les is a very patient effective teacher whether it is for one-handed casting or two-handed casting. To my knowledge, he is the only one in Florida FFI certified to teach both one and two-handed casting. Leslie Holmes is a consummate teacher. He combines profound knowledge and world-class casting skills with concise, personalized instruction.
